Captain Marvel Movie Costume: Artists Posts His Concept Art

The concept artwork for Brie Larson’s titular superhero costume in Captain Marvel has been shared online. Being the first female superhero to headline her own film within the massive Marvel Cinematic Universe, anticipation has been high for the project despite the fact that it’s still almost two years from hitting the cinemas.

Last month’s San Diego Comic-Con brought with it a lot of reveals about the Brie Larson-starring adventure; the film will be set in the ’90s and mark the official introduction of the Skrulls and their shape-shifting concept to the MCU. The Hall H reveal also came with concept art showing Carol Danvers in her movie costume, but so far we’ve only had grainy photos from those in the auditorium. Now there’s something a little better.

The reveal has come courtesy of comic book artist Andy Park who has posted on his official Twitter account his render of Larson as Captain Marvel. Unfortunately, the image shared is not high quality – it’s still a photo of his work – and Park explains that he has not been given the go-ahead by Marvel yet to release it yet. See the photo below:

Despite the slight blurriness of the snap, we can now see Larson’s costume in more detail. It looks to be very similar to the one Captain Marvel sports in Kelly Sue DeConnick’s relaunch of the superhero in 2012. This Marvel’s origins was that of a military officer who was affected by a Kree device explosion thus giving her superhuman powers with the mutation of alien Kree and human genes, something that fits with the planned infusion of the Kree-Skrull war in the movie.

Given that the film is set in the ’90s, the version of Samuel L. Jackson in the movie will be a still two-eyed Nick Fury, with many expecting to see how he ended up with the eyepatch. It, of course, also means that several other older characters – such as Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter, who died of old age in Captain America: Civil War – can come back to the franchise.

With more and more information coming out with regard to Captain Marvel, the core mystery still remains as to what exactly happens to her so that she’s not present through the current decade of major MCU action. That’s one detail Marvel may save for the film.
